Frank Kawe (Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāti Kahungunu) a highly respected traditional Māori navigator, waka skipper (Kaihautū), and waka builder based in Tauranga came to us to replicate a set of waka ama arms. We collaborated with him on his plans to refine and build these beautifully flowing arms that have the structural strength to stabilize a Matangirua, sailing waka ama.

The four bends in each arm beam presented challenges in laminating to ensure the finished arm retained the specified dimensions and shape. We were able to manufacture them millimeter perfect to fit into his vessel.
